FRESNO--The future is here and DMV wants customers to know about it! That's because for the first time, Fresno County fair-goers will be able to visit a special kiosk at the DMV exhibit, use a touch screen to enter vehicle information, pay with cash, check or credit card, and walk away with license tags and a registration card-and it only takes a couple of minutes.
DMV officials urge anyone who recently received a vehicle
registration notice and would like to use the new registration
kiosk at the fair, to bring their registration paperwork
to the booth and give it a try.
All customers will need is a credit card, cash, or check
along with their Renewal Identification Number (RIN)
listed on their notice, and a few minutes of their time.
A DMV technician will be there to help with the process,
and demonstrate just how quick and easy it is to use
the kiosk.
The kiosk has been in operation for three months at a DMV office in Sacramento, and was successfully demonstrated for thousands of fair-goers at the State Fair in Sacramento in August and at the Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona last month. The kiosk is being tested for six months at locations in Northern California and in the Los Angeles area to determine customer acceptance and the machine's effectiveness and durability.
In addition to the kiosk, fairgoers who stop by the DMV booth will be able to go online with computers to:
- Make special plate reservations.
- Set appointments.
- Renew their vehicle registration.
- Fill out and print forms.
Online prompts (and cheerful DMV technicians!) will step customers through each process. Additionally, customers will be able to find answers to most of their DMV questions through the FAQs and many other informational links available on the site.
Premiering at the Fresno County Fair October 6 through October 17 in Fresno, the 200-square-foot DMV booth will be located in the Industry Commerce Building. A touch-screen set in the left end of the booth will provide several one-minute segments, in English and Spanish, on DMV's alternatives to an office visit, and a television at the front will show a continuous video about DMV's automated services.
A bookmark providing website information and highlighting the departments new toll-free fully automated voice recognition system at 800-921-1117 will be distributed to booth visitors, along with other informational publications.
