Sacramento-The California Department of Motor Vehicles announced today that the expected December 17th closure of its Rocklin field office has been canceled. The office will remain open at its existing location, 4240 Rocklin Road, under a one-year lease extension.

After losing its lease with no other acceptable location immediately available in the Rocklin area, DMV had said earlier it regrettably had no alternative but to close its existing Rocklin office for several months while the search continued for new quarters.

But the department announced Friday that the landlord unexpectedly reopened negotiations last week and worked out a last-minute one-year lease extension.

During the one-year extension, behind-the-wheel drive tests and motorcycle drive tests will not be conducted at the Rocklin location for lack of suitable facilities, but those tests are available at other nearby DMV field offices in Roseville, Folsom, Auburn, Carmichael and Sacramento. Other field office services will continue to be offered at the Rocklin office.

"We're delighted we were able to work out an eleventh hour extension of the existing lease," said DMV's acting Deputy Director for Field Operations, Janis Saxon. "Our Rocklin office is very popular with local residents."
