Tehachapi— Starting with the beginning of the new year, the days of operation of the twice a week service provided by the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in Tehachapi will be moved to Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., beginning with service on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008. Previously the services were available on Monday and Friday. The location will continue to be the Tehachapi Veterans Hall located at 125 East F Street in Tehachapi.
Services provided include those related to vehicle registration, ID cards and driver’s licenses during the hours of operation (commercial and motorcycle license testing are not available at this location).
“Although several of our services are now available on line, DMV continues to provide a once or twice a week service in several rural communities throughout California,” said DMV Director George Valverde. “The services are a convenience to many customers who otherwise would have to travel long distances when they must visit one of our offices.”
Valverde noted that the Tehachapi service saves time, money and fuel to approximately 125 customers who take advantage of it each day it is provided.
Since the mid 1980’s a staff of three DMV employees from the Bakersfield field office has been travelling to the City of Tehachapi at first once a week and starting in March of 2006, twice weekly, servicing thousands of residents of Tehachapi, Mojave, California City, Stallion Springs, Bear Valley and unincorporated areas of western Kern County.Don’t Stand In Line, Go Online! Doing business with the DMV has never been easier. The DMV offers an array of services to customers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through its Web site (www.dmv.ca.gov), including online appointments for written and drive tests; vehicle registration and driver license renewals, selection of personalized license plates, changes of address and payment of fees via secure debit transactions.
DMV is a department under the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency, which is under the direction of Secretary Dale E. Bonner. The DMV licenses drivers; maintains driving records; registers and tracks official ownership of vehicles and vessels; investigates auto and identity-related fraud; and licenses car dealers, driving schools, and traffic violator schools.
