Ombudsman

The DMV Industry Ombudsman

Empowered by the governor, the DMV Industry Ombudsman has been created to serve motor vehicle and traffic safety industries controlled by departmental regulations.

What the DMV Industry Ombudsman does

The DMV Industry Ombudsman program is an avenue for regulated industries to raise issues and receive assistance dealing strictly with DMV business issues. The Industry Ombudsman will address regulated issues and coordinate solutions or responses from either the affected departmental division or from the Ombudsman directly.

What the Ombudsman cannot do

The DMV Industry Ombudsman cannot investigate operational complaints, personal issues and shall not circumvent the current complaint process.

Where to start if you have a concern or issue

The Ombudsman should be the last resort for any regulatory concerns. Please take your concern directly to the departmental division involved and allow them the opportunity to address your concern. If you do not know what division to contact, see the attached telephone listing for assistance. If your concern involves a DMV Field Office, you may contact your local Field Office Manager before pursuing other avenues of assistance. To obtain the address and telephone number of any Field Office refer to the attached listing DMV Field Offices.

When to contact the DMV Industry Ombudsman

The office will only become involved after the appropriate departmental divisions have had the opportunity to resolve the problem. If you are not satisfied or feel the matter is not resolved, regulated industry is welcome to put their concerns in writing.

Written concerns may be mailed to:

Department of Motor Vehicles
Ombudsman, Mail Station C171
