The MCP Operations Unit

The Motor Carrier Services Branch (MCSB) established an Operations Unit to process the "Application for Motor Carrier Permit" (DMV 706 MCP), fees, and insurance. The MCSB issues a renewal notice annually to all active MCP holders 75 days prior to the expiration of their permit. It is the Motor Carrier Permit Operations Unit’s goal to issue the permit within 48 hours of receiving the application and fees if all requirements have been met.

The MCP Operations Unit staff is available to answer your telephone calls Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The hours between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. are set aside for training of staff.

The Automated Voice Response (AVR) phone system is available 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. The AVR system provides basic information including:

• The definition of an MCP and who is required to have one.
• Requirements to obtain an MCP.
• Insurance requirements and the levels of insurance required.
• The option to request forms.
• List of "active" motor carriers.
