Driver License Renewal Check List
You will need a federal compliant card such as a passport, military ID, or REAL ID to board a domestic flight or access some federal facilities beginning October 1, 2020. The DMV started offering REAL ID driver licenses and ID cards on January 22, 2018. A field office visit is required to apply for a REAL ID.
The requirements are:
Complete an original Driver License or Identification Card Application form (DL 44) or Commercial Driver License Application (DL 44C) or bring in the renewal notice DMV mailed to you. To obtain the DL 44 form by mail, call DMV's automated phone service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at 1-800-777-0133.
Commercial Driver License holders only: If renewing in person complete a 10 Year History Record Check form (DL 939) or the Driver License Ten Year History Record Check renewal form (DL 10Y) and submit it with your Commercial Driver License Application (DL 44C) or renewal application. If renewing by mail enclose your completed Driver License Ten Year History Record Check renewal form (DL 10Y), the bottom portion of your renewal by mail notice, and a check for the amount due.
Pay the application fee.
Pass a knowledge test.
