New San Marcos Field Office Opens September 28th
New Facility Replaces Former Escondido Field Office
Sacramento – The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is notifying local customers that the new San Marcos field office at 590 Rancheros Drive will open to the public on Monday, September 28, 2015, at 8 a.m.; and will only be providing partial services.
The 29,498 square foot building will house an Industry Business Center (IBC), and a Departmental Training Branch office to be used by DMV employees in the region. The new facility will eventually house a full service field office.
It is important to note that when the new facility opens, it will ONLY provide registration and industry services. Driver license transactions will continue to be processed at the temporary DMV field office, located at 1706 Descanso Avenue, until it closes in March 2016. At that time, the San Marcos field office will begin to offer driver license services. The transitional DMV office was opened in 2014 after the Escondido field office closed.
DMV industry customers will use a separate entrance that leads to the one-stop Industry Business Center which serves automotive dealers, vehicle manufacturers, dismantlers, rental car companies, and registration services.
This econ-friendly facility was designed to incorporate sustainable building materials, drought-tolerant native landscaping, and water and energy efficient building systems. It is expected to be awarded a Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) New Construction Gold Certification. LEED is a green building certification program that recognizes the best building strategies and practices.
Appointments during the first three days of operation will only be available by telephone. Starting October 1, 2015, appointments will be available online (www.dmv.ca.gov) and by calling 1-800-777-0133.
