DMV Holds Public Workshop on Autonomous Vehicle Deployment Regulations

DMV Seeks Public Input on the Public Use of Autonomous Vehicles

Sacramento – The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will hold a public workshop tomorrow, October 19, 2016, to discuss and gather input on revised draft deployment regulations which cover the public use of autonomous vehicles on California roadways.  The safety of the motoring public is important to DMV, while recognizing the potential of autonomous technology to improve safety, enhance mobility, and encourage innovation.

WHEN: Wednesday, October 19, 2016 9:30 a.m.
California State Capitol Senate Committee Room 4203 1315 10th Street Sacramento, CA 95814

The workshop’s agenda is available on the DMV’s autonomous vehicle deployment webpage.

The revised draft deployment regulations do not represent a formal rulemaking by the department.  This is a next step in the process which is meant to encourage public dialogue and collect feedback on the content of the regulations.

California Transportation Agency Secretary Brian P. Kelly will share opening remarks about the administration’s perspective on autonomous technology, followed by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Administrator Mark Rosekind and Associate Administrator Nat Beuse who will provide a high level overview of the recently released Federal Automated Vehicles Policy.

Those who would like to speak at the workshop will be required to check-in at the DMV table located outside Senate Committee Room 4203. Written comments may be submitted to:
