Eureka – The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will open its Eureka field office on Saturday, November 2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a special walk-in only “REAL ID Saturday” event.

The office, which normally is open Monday through Friday, is offering this one-day only Saturday service to encourage residents of Humboldt County and the surrounding area to apply for a REAL ID. Starting October 1, 2020, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will require residents to show a valid passport or other federally approved document, like a REAL ID driver license or identification card, to board flights within the United States and access secure federal facilities and military bases.

“We hope Californians in the Eureka area and beyond take advantage of this one-day event in which we are focusing solely on processing applications for REAL IDs,” DMV Director Steve Gordon said. “No appointment is needed, so please come in at your convenience – and be sure to bring all the required documents.”

To apply for a REAL ID, Californians must visit a DMV office and bring the following documents:

  • One Proof of Identity – Original or Certified (examples: valid passport, birth certificate)
  • One Proof of Social Security Number
  • Two Proofs of California Residency – Paper Copies (examples: utility bill, bank statement)

Visitar REALID.dmv.ca.gov for a complete list of acceptable documents and a helpful quiz to determine if you need a REAL ID. Customers are encouraged to fill out the online application before their office visit at eDLapp.dmv.ca.gov.

REMINDER – Eureka field office is moving soon: The DMV wants to remind customers the Eureka field office is changing locations next month. The current office, located at 322 W. 15th St., will move to a temporary space at Bayshore Mall, Suite #906, 3300 Broadway St., while the DMV looks for a permanent office location. The DMV plans to announce exact dates for the relocation in the near future.

The DMV reminds customers that many transactions can be completed without visiting a field office, including renewing a vehicle registration or driver license (not available when first applying for a REAL ID), ordering replacement vehicle registration cards and stickers, and changing an address.
