{"id":14875,"date":"2020-04-15T15:41:27","date_gmt":"2020-04-15T22:41:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/handbook\/vehicle-industry-registration-procedures-manual-2\/corrections-and-adjustments\/renewal-or-planned-nonoperation-pno-fees-paid-on-the-wrong-vehicle\/"},"modified":"2024-04-16T09:43:58","modified_gmt":"2024-04-16T16:43:58","slug":"renewal-or-planned-nonoperation-pno-fees-paid-on-the-wrong-vehicle","status":"publish","type":"dmv_handbook","link":"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/es\/handbook\/vehicle-industry-registration-procedures-manual-2\/corrections-and-adjustments\/renewal-or-planned-nonoperation-pno-fees-paid-on-the-wrong-vehicle\/","title":{"rendered":"22.085 Renewal or Planned Nonoperation (PNO) Fees Paid on the Wrong Vehicle (VC \u00a7\u00a74751 and 9562)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Both Vehicles Owned by the Same Owner<\/strong>\u2014When the renewal of PNO fees are paid on the wrong vehicle <strong>y <\/strong>the registration for the correct vehicle expires, <strong>the following must be submitted:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The incorrect registration card.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A completed Statement of Facts (REG 256) form which explains fees were paid on the wrong vehicle and identifies the correct vehicle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any additional fees due <strong>or <\/strong>a completed Application for Refund (ADM 399) form, which explains the mistake, shows the amount paid in error, amount to be applied to the correct vehicle, and amount requested as a refund.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The procedures below must be followed:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Waive the late penalty if the registration was renewed in error, the owner did not operate the vehicle, and their intent was to file a Certificate of Non-Operation\/Planned Non-Operation Certification (REG 102) form.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Vehicle Sold After Renewal\/PNO Fees Are Paid<\/strong>\u2014A refund <strong>cannot be issued<\/strong> when an owner pays the renewal or PNO fees and then sells the vehicle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fees Paid After The Vehicle Has Been Sold<\/strong>\u2014A refund or transfer of fees <strong>may <\/strong>be considered, if renewal or PNO fees are paid by the owner after the vehicle is sold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Transfer to New Owner Not Updated<\/strong>\u2014If the vehicle record still reflects the seller\u2019s name as the owner, <strong>the following must be submitted<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The incorrect registration card.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A REG 256 stating:<br>\u2014 The vehicle was registered in error for the current registration year.\u2014 They did not operate the vehicle.<br>\u2014 The registration fees paid were intended for another vehicle.<br>\u2014 The license plate number, make, and VIN for the intended vehicle.\u2014 The name of the buyer of the vehicle.<br>\u2014 The date of sale, if known.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Transfer to New Owner Updated\u2014<\/strong>The applicant <strong>must <\/strong>provide evidence that the date of sale was <strong>before <\/strong>the date fees were paid if the vehicle record reflects a new owner\u2019s name. A copy of the Notice of Release of Liability (REG 138) form is acceptable evidence. <br><strong>The following must be submitted:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Evidence that the date of sale was before the date fees were paid.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A REG 256 explaining that fees were paid after the vehicle was sold.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An ADM 399.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The procedures below must be followed:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Call FOSU at (916) 657-8035 to have a VLT Stop 53 (Refer to Correspondence) placed on the vehicle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attach the incorrect registration card and unused sticker to the ADM 399 and forward to the appropriate RPU in DMV headquarters for further action. The RPU will request the fees due from the new owner and adjust the fees due on the incorrect vehicle.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span role=\"region\" class=\"format-label--note\"><span class=\"format-label__text\">Note<\/span> Fees will not be refunded or transferred without documentation.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br><\/p>","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"parent":14815,"menu_order":18,"template":"","dmv_task":[11],"dmv_functional_page_type":[64],"dmv_handbook_category":[943,595],"class_list":["post-14875","dmv_handbook","type-dmv_handbook","status-publish","hentry","dmv_task-educational","dmv_functional_page_type-informational","dmv_handbook_category-corrections-and-adjustments","dmv_handbook_category-vehicle-industry-reg-procedures-manual"],"featured_image_src":null,"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 -
