{"id":15031,"date":"2020-04-15T15:44:41","date_gmt":"2020-04-15T22:44:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/handbook\/vehicle-industry-registration-procedures-manual-2\/vessels\/unavailable-records\/"},"modified":"2024-03-25T14:37:55","modified_gmt":"2024-03-25T21:37:55","slug":"unavailable-records","status":"publish","type":"dmv_handbook","link":"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/es\/handbook\/vehicle-industry-registration-procedures-manual-2\/vessels\/unavailable-records\/","title":{"rendered":"24.160 Unavailable Records (VC \u00a79917)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The application is processed as an original registration when a vessel record is <strong>not <\/strong>on file, the applicant does not have either the California Certificate of Ownership or certificate of number, and the vessel is located in California. <strong>The following must be submitted:<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Completed Application for Registration Number, Certificate of Ownership, and Certificate of Number for Undocumented Vessel\u00a0(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/es\/file\/application-for-vessel-certificate-of-number-boat-101-pdf\/\">BOAT 101 (PDF)<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Statement of Facts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/es\/file\/statement-of-facts-reg-256-pdf\/\">REG 256 (PDF)<\/a> completed by the applicant stating:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>How, when, and from whom the vessel was acquired.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What effort has been made to contact the last owner(s) of record to obtain evidence of ownership and why it was not obtained.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The current value of the vessel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Copies of tax records for the vessel which show the applicant paid taxes to the County Assessor\u2019s Office may be accepted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span role=\"region\" class=\"format-label--note\"><span class=\"format-label__text\">Note<\/span> A bond is required for a vessel valued at $2,000 or more <strong>if <\/strong>ownership documents <strong>cannot <\/strong>be furnished. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The original registration and Quagga\/Zebra Mussel fees.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Refer to Quagga\/Zebra Mussel Fee section in this chapter for additional\/exemption information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The procedures below must be followed:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Process the transaction using the old CF number, if there is one, and key as\u201cinventory issued.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Give the applicant the BOAT 3 booklet.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For motorized vessels, issue one set of Vessel Carbon Monoxide Warning Stickers and the companion brochure.
