A refund of renewal fees may be considered when renewal fees are paid, but the vehicle <strong>is not<\/strong> used because it is no longer located in California <strong>or <\/strong>has been junked or salvaged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Vehicle No Longer in California<\/strong>\u2014<strong>Before <\/strong>accepting an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/es\/file\/application-for-refund-adm-399-pdf\/\">Application for Refund (ADM 399) (PDF)<\/a> form, determine if a refund of renewal fees is appropriate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The following must be submitted:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An ADM 399 showing the date the vehicle left California.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The registration card <strong>y <\/strong>unused sticker. If these items are not submitted with the ADM 399, the refund may be refused.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The procedures below must be followed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Review the ADM 399 to determine if a refund of fees is appropriate. Consider that a refund:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Is not due for a vehicle that left California during the registration period for which renewal fees were paid.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>May be issued for a vehicle that left California before the effective date of the registration period for which renewal fees were paid.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Forward the ADM 399 and attachments with the miscellaneous work to the appropriate Registration Processing Unit (RPU) in DMV headquarters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span role=\"region\" class=\"format-label--note\"><span class=\"format-label__text\">Note<\/span> A refund <strong>cannot <\/strong>be given if the vehicle was located out of state when originally registered in California (VC \u00a74152).<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Junked\/Salvaged Vehicle<\/strong>\u2014An owner who pays the renewal or PNO fees <strong>prior <\/strong>to the registration expiration date on a vehicle that is junked, wrecked, or salvaged <strong>prior <\/strong>to the new registration year may apply for a refund of the renewal or PNO fees provided there is evidence documenting the date of loss. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The following must be submitted:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An ADM 399. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The current registration card and unused sticker.
