Sacramento – The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will open six field offices in the Palm Springs area an hour earlier beginning Monday, July 1.

The following field offices will open at 7 a.m. every weekday except Wednesday to help ease customer wait times. The offices will continue to open at 9 a.m. on Wednesday and close at 5 p.m. daily.

Beginning July 1, 69 field offices across the state will open earlier.

No-Fee Senior ID Cards at DMV Senior Connect Center: Due to popular demand, the DMV continues to offer no-fee identification cards to senior citizens at the Palm Springs Leisure Center at 401 S. Pavilion Way.

The DMV Senior Connect Center is open Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. every week through July 18. Customers must be at least 62 years old to qualify for the no-fee identification card. Driver licenses and other DMV services are not available.

Seniors interested in applying for a federal compliant REAL ID identification card must bring specific documents (full list of accepted documents and more information at REALID.dmv.ca.gov) when applying:

  • One Proof of Identity – original or certified copy (example: valid U.S. passport, birth certificate, etc.)
  • One Proof of Social Security Number – must display full number
  • Two Proofs of California Residency – photocopies accepted (example: utility bill, cell phone bill, bank statement, vehicle registration card, etc.)

Reminder – Saturday Service: The DMV offers Californians convenient service from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Saturday at 62 field offices throughout the state, including Palm Desert and Hemet. Customers without an appointment are finding their visit time significantly reduced if they arrive after 2 p.m.
