{"id":13522,"date":"2020-04-15T15:22:54","date_gmt":"2020-04-15T22:22:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/handbook\/vehicle-industry-registration-procedures-manual-2\/collection-and-payment-of-fees-and-penalties\/registration-fees\/"},"modified":"2024-04-26T10:32:03","modified_gmt":"2024-04-26T17:32:03","slug":"registration-fees","status":"publish","type":"dmv_handbook","link":"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/handbook\/vehicle-industry-registration-procedures-manual-2\/collection-and-payment-of-fees-and-penalties\/registration-fees\/","title":{"rendered":"3.060 Registration Fees (VC \u00a7\u00a79250\u20139265 and 9400.1)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>To register a vehicle in California, certain basic fees are collected, based on the type of vehicle, county of residence, and type of transaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other miscellaneous fees may also be due, based on the type of vehicle and type of transaction. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The regular fees required for vehicles subject to registration are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Registration fee (RF).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>California Highway Patrol (CHP) law enforcement fee.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Miscellaneous county fees which DMV is mandated to collect.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Vehicle license fee (VLF).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Weight fee (WF) for commercial vehicles.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reflectorized license plate fee.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Other fees may be due, depending on the type of application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The registration fee is collected on original registration and registration renewal of every vehicle and trailer coach subject to registration. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The fee is not collected on off-highway vehicles (OHV) or permanent trailer identification (PTI) trailers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Commercial Vehicle Registration Act (CVRA) registration fee and CVRA CHP Fee is collected in addition to the regular registration fee and CHP fee on commercial vehicles subject to CVRA fees.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The registration fee is subject to a penalty based on the date the fee was paid.
