and the buyer does <strong>not<\/strong> want to title the vehicle:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Complete the REG 51 as usual.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mark all copies of the REG 51 \u201cfor exclusive use on private property\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/file\/statement-of-facts-reg-256-pdf\/\" target=\"_blank\">REG 256 (PDF)<\/a> explaining how the vehicle was moved.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do <strong>not<\/strong> affix the buyer\u2019s copy of the REG 51 to the vehicle.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The buyer must arrange for transport or move the vehicle on a One Trip Permit <strong>unless<\/strong> the sale is completed <strong>after<\/strong> delivery of the vehicle, in which case then vehicle can be delivered using dealer plates. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Send the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/file\/statement-of-facts-reg-256-pdf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">REG 256 (PDF)<\/a> and all copies of the REG 51 <strong>except<\/strong> the book copy to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Department of Motor Vehicles<br>Incoming Mail MS A235<br>PO Box 944292<br>Sacramento, CA 94244-2920<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Retain the book copy of the REG 51 and a copy of the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/file\/statement-of-facts-reg-256-pdf\/\" target=\"_blank\">REG 256 (PDF)<\/a> at the dealer\u2019s primary place of business location.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide the buyer with the existing title and any supporting documents<br>(see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/handbook\/vehicle-industry-registration-procedures-manual-2\/report-of-sale-used-vehicles\/buyer-demands-the-certificate-of-title\/\">Section 8.055<\/a> for additional information on customer demands title).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Title to be issued<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When a used vehicle is sold exclusively for use on private property and the buyer requests issuance of a California title for the vehicle, in addition to the usual transfer or nonresident requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Complete the REG 51 as usual.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mark all copies of the REG 51 \u201cfor exclusive use on private property\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/file\/statement-of-facts-reg-256-pdf\/\" target=\"_blank\">REG 256 (PDF)<\/a> explaining how the vehicle was moved and requesting transfer only or title only, as appropriate, and submit with the transfer application.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Do <strong>not<\/strong> affix the buyer\u2019s copy of the REG 51 to the vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The buyer must arrange for transport or move the vehicle on a One Trip Permit unless the sale is completed after delivery of the vehicle, in which case the vehicle can be delivered using dealer plates.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submit the application copy of the Report of Sale\u2013Used Vehicle (REG 51) form with the transfer application.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Send buyer\u2019s copy of the REG 51 with the 5-day notice and a copy of the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/file\/statement-of-facts-reg-256-pdf\/\" target=\"_blank\">Statement of Facts (REG 256) (PDF)<\/a> form to:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Department of Motor Vehicles<br> Incoming Mail MS A235<br> PO Box 944292<br> Sacramento, CA 94244-2920<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul
