{"id":13741,"date":"2020-04-15T15:24:36","date_gmt":"2020-04-15T22:24:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/handbook\/vehicle-industry-registration-procedures-manual-2\/report-of-sale-used-vehicles\/used-vehicle-sold-for-registration-in-another-state\/"},"modified":"2024-03-13T10:37:54","modified_gmt":"2024-03-13T17:37:54","slug":"used-vehicle-sold-for-registration-in-another-state","status":"publish","type":"dmv_handbook","link":"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/handbook\/vehicle-industry-registration-procedures-manual-2\/report-of-sale-used-vehicles\/used-vehicle-sold-for-registration-in-another-state\/","title":{"rendered":"8.050 Used Vehicle Sold for Registration in Another State"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>When a used vehicle is sold for registration in another state:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Complete the Report of Sale\u2013Used Vehicle (REG 51) form <strong>and<\/strong> mark it \u201cfor registration in another state\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/file\/statement-of-facts-reg-256-pdf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Statement of Facts (REG 256) (PDF)<\/a> form explaining how the vehicle is being moved to the other state if the California registration is not valid.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span role=\"region\" class=\"format-label--note\"><span class=\"format-label__text\">Note<\/span> The buyer must transport the vehicle or move it on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/handbook\/vehicle-industry-registration-procedures-manual-2\/permits-and-decals\/one-trip-permit-reg-402t\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">One Trip Permit (REG 402)<\/a> <strong>unless<\/strong> California registration is current, or registration is obtained in the buyer\u2019s home state prior to movement of the vehicle.
