{"id":14362,"date":"2020-04-15T15:32:18","date_gmt":"2020-04-15T22:32:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/handbook\/vehicle-industry-registration-procedures-manual-2\/off-highway-vehicles\/specially-constructed-ohvs\/"},"modified":"2025-05-05T10:21:05","modified_gmt":"2025-05-05T17:21:05","slug":"specially-constructed-ohvs","status":"publish","type":"dmv_handbook","link":"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/handbook\/vehicle-industry-registration-procedures-manual-2\/off-highway-vehicles\/specially-constructed-ohvs\/","title":{"rendered":"15.130 Specially Constructed OHVs"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The requirements for a specially constructed (SPCNS) OHV, are the same as shown in Chapter 7 for other SPCNS vehicles,&nbsp;<strong>except<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/file\/statement-of-construction-reg-5036-pdf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Statement of Construction (REG 5036) (PDF)<\/a> form is required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span role=\"region\" class=\"format-label--note\"><span class=\"format-label__text\">Note<\/span> A motor vehicle bond&nbsp;is<strong> required<\/strong>&nbsp;for the total value of the vehicle if the value of the parts&nbsp;<strong>not&nbsp;<\/strong>covered by bill(s) of sale is more than $5000.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An electronic <a href=\"https:\/\/bar.ca.gov\/safety-systems\">Vehicle Safety Systems Inspection (VSSI)<\/a> certificate is\u00a0<strong>not\u00a0<\/strong>required.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A smog certification is&nbsp;<strong>not&nbsp;<\/strong>required.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use tax is&nbsp;<strong>not&nbsp;<\/strong>due on a vehicle constructed\/built by the applicant.
