{"id":14542,"date":"2020-04-15T15:35:19","date_gmt":"2020-04-15T22:35:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/handbook\/vehicle-industry-registration-procedures-manual-2\/salvage-nonrepairable-junk-vehicles\/junking-a-vehicle-dismantler\/"},"modified":"2024-04-05T14:52:02","modified_gmt":"2024-04-05T21:52:02","slug":"junking-a-vehicle-dismantler","status":"publish","type":"dmv_handbook","link":"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/handbook\/vehicle-industry-registration-procedures-manual-2\/salvage-nonrepairable-junk-vehicles\/junking-a-vehicle-dismantler\/","title":{"rendered":"19.025 Junking a Vehicle\u2014Dismantler (VC \u00a711520)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A vehicle can be dismantled:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ten days after the Dismantlers Notice of Acquisition (REG 42-bottom portion) is mailed to DMV.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any time after the Report of Vehicle to be Dismantled (REG 42-upper portion), evidence of ownership, license plates, or Dismantler\u2019s Notice of License Plate Destruction are <strong>delivered<\/strong> to DMV.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Immediately, if the vehicle:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Is acquired from a city or county under a local abatement program (VC \u00a7\u00a722660 and 22664).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Already has a \u201cjunk\u201d status on DMV\u2019s record.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The following must be submitted:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The original and duplicate copy of the Report of Vehicle to be Dismantled (REG 42) form.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The evidence of ownership.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The last-issued license plate(s) <strong>or<\/strong> the Dismantler\u2019s Notice of License Plate Destruction (REG 42) form.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Board of Equalization Certificate of Excise Tax Clearance (BOE 1138) form for commercial vehicles with unladen weight of more than 7,000 pounds powered by fuel <strong>other than<\/strong> gasoline or diesel (CR&amp;TC \u00a7\u00a78608 &amp; 8995).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dismantlers are exempt from odometer disclosure reporting. However, include any that are submitted. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Registration and\/or transfer fees are <strong>not<\/strong> due from a licensed dismantler.
