Existing license plates <strong>may <\/strong>be reassigned as explained in the Reassignment of Special License Plates section in this chapter. Personalized OGLPs may be kept by the license plate owner as a souvenir and reassigned at a later date. A retention fee must be paid each year to retain the personalized configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The procedures below must be followed:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To <strong>retain <\/strong>the personalized OGLP as a souvenir:<br>\u2014 A Special Interest License Plate Application (REG 17) form from the license plate owner marked \u201cRETAIN INTEREST.\u201d<br>\u2014 An Application for Replacement Plates, Stickers, Documents (REG 156) form for substitute license plates.<br>\u2014 No additional fee is required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To <strong>exchange <\/strong>to another special license plate in the same configuration as the personalized OGLP:<br>\u2014 A REG 17 requesting the exchange.<br>\u2014 The appropriate special license plate fee.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To <strong>request <\/strong>regular series license plates:<br>\u2014 A REG 156.<br>\u2014 A REG 17 marked \u201cRELEASE INTEREST.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For reassignment of OGLPs retained as souvenirs to another vehicle:<br>\u2014 The license plates currently assigned to the vehicle must be picked up and destroyed. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Exchange<\/strong>\u2014Existing personalized license plates <strong>may not<\/strong> be exchanged to personalized OGLP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Renewal\/Reassignment<\/strong>\u2014An additional fee is required for renewal and reassignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Retention<\/strong>\u2014No additional fee is required.<br><\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"parent":14641,"menu_order":34,"template":"","dmv_task":[11],"dmv_functional_page_type":[64],"dmv_handbook_category":[595],"class_list":["post-14746","dmv_handbook","type-dmv_handbook","status-publish","hentry","dmv_task-educational","dmv_functional_page_type-informational","dmv_handbook_category-vehicle-industry-reg-procedures-manual"],"featured_image_src":null,"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.2 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>21.165 Olympic Games License Plates - California DMV<\/title>\n<meta name=\"robots\" content=\"index, follow, max-snippet:-1, max-image-preview:large, max-video-preview:-1\" \/>\n<link rel=\"canonical\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/handbook\/vehicle-industry-registration-procedures-manual-2\/special-plates\/olympic-games-license-plates\/\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:locale\" content=\"en_US\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:type\" content=\"article\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:title\" content=\"21.165 Olympic Games License Plates - California DMV\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:description\" content=\"Chapter 21 Special License Plates 21.165 Olympic Games License Plates (CVC \u00a75022) Olympic Games License Plates (OGLP) are no longer available for issuance or replacement.
