Use the following chart for accepting or refusing refund requests:<\/p>\n\n\n

If the Fees Were Paid for<\/th>Then<\/th><\/tr><\/thead>
If the Fees Were Paid for<\/span>Duplicate\/replacement certificates\/stickers\u00a0and<\/strong>\u00a0the originals were subsequently found<\/td>Then<\/span>A refund\u00a0is not<\/strong>\u00a0due. The items were voluntarily requested and issued. Advise the applicant to destroy the original as they were no longer valid.<\/td><\/tr>
If the Fees Were Paid for<\/span>Use tax (in error or in excess of the amount actually due)<\/td>Then<\/span>A refund\u00a0cannot\u00a0<\/strong>be issued by DMV. Advise the customer to contact the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) for a refund.<\/td><\/tr>
If the Fees Were Paid for<\/span>For parking fees to both the parking agency\u00a0and\u00a0<\/strong>DMV<\/td>Then<\/span>A refund\u00a0cannot\u00a0<\/strong>be issued by DMV. Advise the customer to contact the parking agency for a refund.<\/td><\/tr>
If the Fees Were Paid for<\/span>A vehicle reclassed in error or based on the wrong purchase price<\/td>Then<\/span>\u2022 Give the customer an Application for Refund (ADM 399) form\u00a0and\u00a0<\/strong>a Statement of Facts (REG 256) form.
\u2022 Advise the customer to complete and sign the REG 256 showing the correct price for the vehicle\u00a0and\u00a0<\/strong>submit it, the California Certificate of Title, and the ADM 399 to the address shown on the ADM 399.\u00a0NOTE<\/strong>: Any excess use tax paid as a result of the incorrect price\u00a0must be<\/strong>\u00a0requested separately from CDTFA.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n<\/body>\n\n\n
