Use the following guidelines to determine if a refund may be requested for a stolen vehicle:<\/p>\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n\n
If the Owner
\n<\/th>\n 		And the Vehicle Is
\n<\/th>\n 		Then the Owner
\n<\/th>\n <\/tr><\/thead>
If the Owner\n<\/span>Already paid the renewal fees for the upcoming year
\n<\/td>\n 		And the Vehicle Is\n<\/span>Stolen prior <\/strong>to the registration expiration date
\n<\/td>\n 		Then the Owner\n<\/span>May apply for a refund.
The following must be submitted:
<\/strong>\n \u2022 A complete Application for Refund (ADM 399) form.
\n \u2022 The registration card and unused sticker.\nThe procedures below must be followed:
<\/strong>\n \u2022 Forward the refund request with the registration card and sticker to the appropriate Registration Processing Unit (RPU) at DMV headquarters.\n<\/td>\n <\/tr>\n
If the Owner\n<\/span>Paid the renewal fees on the vehicle
\n<\/td>\n 		And the Vehicle Is\n<\/span>One of the following:
\u2022 Stolen after the fees became due
\n \u2022 Unrecovered for 60 days or more
\n \u2022 Declared a \u201ctotal loss\u201d\n \nREFERENCE<\/strong>:
CCR \u00a7\u00a7155.00- 155.10
\n<\/td>\n 		Then the Owner\n<\/span>May apply for a prorated vehicle license fee (VLF) refund (CRTC \u00a710902(d)).
The requirements are:
\u2022 A Department of Justice (DOJ) stop must <\/strong>be on the vehicle record or <\/strong>the refund application must include a copy of the vehicle theft report.
\n \u2022 The stolen vehicle must <\/strong>be registered to the owner of the salvage value (usually the insurance company) in accordance with VC \u00a75902.
\n \u2022 At least one full month of \u201cunused\u201d registration from the date of loss must <\/strong>be remaining and <\/strong>the amount to be refunded must <\/strong>be at least $1 after DMV\u2019s administrative fee is deducted.\n<\/td>\n <\/tr>\n<\/tbody><\/table>\n<\/figure>\n<\/body>\n\n\n

When a prorated VLF refund is appropriate, the following must be submitted:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
