{"id":46249,"date":"2020-05-19T10:36:56","date_gmt":"2020-05-19T17:36:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/?post_type=dmv_handbook&#038;p=46249"},"modified":"2024-11-12T05:27:37","modified_gmt":"2024-11-12T13:27:37","slug":"6-010-california-titled-vehicles","status":"publish","type":"dmv_handbook","link":"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/handbook\/dismantlers-handbook-of-registration-procedures\/quick-reference-charts\/6-010-california-titled-vehicles\/","title":{"rendered":"6.010 California-Titled Vehicles"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Definition:<\/strong>\u00a0A vehicle that was last registered and titled in California.<br><strong>Notice of Acquisition (REG 42):<\/strong>\u00a0Required<br><strong>Report of Vehicle To Be Dismantled (REG 42):<\/strong>\u00a0Required<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When can the vehicle be dismantled?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Ten days after the Dismantlers Notice of Acquisition (REG 42) is mailed to the department.<\/li><li>Any time after the Report of Vehicle To Be Dismantled (REG 42), evidence of ownership, and license plates or Dismantler\u2019s Notice of License Plate Destruction (REG 42) are\u00a0<strong>delivered\u00a0<\/strong>to the department.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Documents required to obtain junk status:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Submit to the department:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Report of Vehicle To Be Dismantled (REG 42).<\/li><li>The California Certificate of Title, or if the title has been lost, an Application for Duplicate Title (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/file\/application-for-duplicate-or-transfer-of-title-reg-227-pdf\/\" target=\"_blank\">REG 227 (PDF)<\/a>).<ul><li><span role=\"region\" class=\"format-label--note\"><span class=\"format-label__text\">Note<\/span> The legal owner\/lienholder\u2019s release signature on an Application for Duplicate Title (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/file\/application-for-duplicate-or-transfer-of-title-reg-227-pdf\/\" target=\"_blank\">REG 227 (PDF)<\/a>)\u00a0<strong>must\u00a0<\/strong>be notarized.
