Show your love for travel this Valentine\u2019s Day by upgrading to a REAL ID.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote has-text-align-center\"><blockquote><p>\u201cSwipe right on a REAL ID,\u201d said DMV Director Steve Gordon. \u201cYou\u2019ll love how easy it is to get one.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no need to wait for the federal enforcement date of May 7, 2025, that requires a REAL ID or other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsa.gov\/travel\/security-screening\/identification\">federally approved document<\/a> to board flights within the United States and access secure federal facilities. Doing it now means more time planning that romantic getaway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To apply for a REAL ID, Californians should visit&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/driver-licenses-identification-cards\/real-id\/\">REALID.dmv.ca.gov<\/a>, fill out the online application and upload their documents. Customers must visit a DMV office and bring their uploaded documents to complete the application. Customers need to provide:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Proof of identity* \u2013 One original or certified document (example: valid passport, birth certificate) *Legal name change document(s) is required if name on proof of identity is different from the name on the other documents (example: marriage certificate, adoption papers).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proofs of California residency \u2013 Two documents, paper copies (example: utility bill, bank statement).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Social Security number (exceptions may apply).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Visit&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/driver-licenses-identification-cards\/real-id\/\">REALID.dmv.ca.gov<\/a>&nbsp;for a complete list of acceptable documents and a link to the online application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Historical REAL ID information:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Total REAL ID cardholders as of February 1, 2024: 17,009,013<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Total REAL ID cardholders as of January 1, 2024: 16,870,178<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Total REAL ID cardholders as February 1, 2023: 15,110,226 <strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Online Services<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DMV has taken many steps to offer more digital services. Most DMV tasks do not require an office visit. The DMV encourages customers to use its&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/dmv-online\/\">online services<\/a>&nbsp;and other service channels to complete transactions, including eligible driver\u2019s license and vehicle registration renewals.
