Hit a home run with a REAL ID"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Contact: \u00a0Office of Public Affairs<br>2415 First Avenue<br>Sacramento, CA 95818<br>(916) 657\u20136437 |\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:dmvpublicaffairs@dmv.ca.gov\">dmvpublicaffairs@dmv.ca.gov<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sacramento<\/strong> \u2013 Nearly 17.3 million Californians now have a REAL ID \u2013 an increase of 143,485 from the previous month \u2013 according to California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This April, as baseball season gets into full swing, Californians can easily spring into action and hit a grand slam when they get a REAL ID.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote has-text-align-center\"><blockquote><p>\u201cBreak out the peanuts and Cracker Jack this season and upgrade to a REAL ID to make air travel and security as easy as 1, 2, 3 and you\u2019re out,\u201d said DMV Director Steve Gordon.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>To apply for a REAL ID, Californians should visit&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/driver-licenses-identification-cards\/real-id\/\">REALID.dmv.ca.gov<\/a>, fill out the online application and upload their documents. Customers must visit a DMV office and bring their uploaded documents to complete the application. Customers need to provide:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Proof of identity* \u2013 One original or certified document (example: valid passport, birth certificate) *Legal name change document(s) is required if name on proof of identity is different from the name on the other documents (example: marriage certificate, adoption papers).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proofs of California residency \u2013 Two documents, paper copies (example: utility bill, bank statement).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Social Security number (exceptions may apply).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Visit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/driver-licenses-identification-cards\/real-id\/\">REALID.dmv.ca.gov<\/a>\u00a0for a complete list of acceptable documents and a link to the online application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no need to wait for the federal enforcement date of May 7, 2025, that requires a REAL ID or other federally approved document to board flights within the United States and access secure federal facilities. Doing it now means more time doing the things you want to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Historical REAL ID information:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Total REAL ID cardholders as of April 1, 2024: 17,285,247<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Total REAL ID cardholders as of March 1, 2024: 17,141,762<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Total REAL ID cardholders as April 1, 2023: 15,462,678<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Online Services<\/strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DMV has taken many steps to offer more digital services. Most DMV tasks do not require an office visit. The DMV encourages customers to use its&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/dmv-online\/\">online services<\/a>&nbsp;and other service channels to complete transactions, including eligible driver\u2019s license and vehicle registration renewals.
