Sacramento<\/strong> \u2013 The California Department of Motor Vehicles is notifying customers that the Watsonville office at 90 Alta Vista Ave. is reopening at 8 a.m. Monday, May 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The office closed on April 5 to replace the furniture and flooring. The office\u2019s interior and exterior were also repainted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Area residents are encouraged to take this opportunity to apply for a REAL ID, which requires an office visit to complete the application. Starting May 7, 2025, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will require a valid passport or other federally approved documents<\/a>, like a REAL ID driver\u2019s license or identification card, to board flights within the United States and access secure federal facilities and military bases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To ensure the shortest office visit possible, first go to REALID.dmv.ca.gov<\/a> to fill out the online application, upload necessary documents and print your confirmation code. Bring your documents and confirmation code to the DMV office to finalize your transaction \u2013 no appointment is needed. Once at a service window, it now usually takes less than 10 minutes to complete the REAL ID transaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before Going to an Office \u2013 Try Online First!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The DMV has taken many steps to offer more digital services. Most DMV tasks do not require an office visit. The DMV encourages customers to use its online services<\/a> and other service channels to complete transactions, including eligible driver\u2019s license and vehicle registration renewals. Customers can also use the Service Advisor<\/a> on the DMV website<\/a> to learn their options to complete DMV tasks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To sign up for paperless vehicle registration and driver\u2019s license renewal notices, customers must sign in or create a secure online account at dmv.ca.gov<\/a> and then opt in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
