Starting May 7, 2025, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will require a valid passport or other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tsa.gov\/travel\/security-screening\/identification\">federally approved documents<\/a>, like a REAL ID driver\u2019s license or identification card, to board flights within the United States and access secure federal facilities and military bases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To ensure the shortest office visit possible, first go to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/driver-licenses-identification-cards\/real-id\/\">REALID.dmv.ca.gov<\/a> to fill out the online application, upload necessary documents and print your confirmation code. Bring your documents and confirmation code to the DMV office to finalize your transaction \u2013 no appointment is needed. Once at a service window, it now usually takes less than 10 minutes to complete the REAL ID transaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Before Going to an Office \u2013 Try Online First!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DMV has taken many steps to offer additional digital services. Most DMV tasks do not require an office visit, including simple self-service transactions that are no longer available in offices. The DMV encourages customers to use its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dmv.ca.gov\/portal\/dmv-online\/\">online services<\/a>\u00a0and other service channels to complete transactions, including eligible driver\u2019s license and vehicle registration renewals.
