What you need to know: <\/strong>The DMV has extended the anticipated cancelation date of approximately 17,000 nondomiciled Commercial Driver\u2019s Licenses by 60 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Sacramento <\/strong>\u2014 The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has extended the cancelation date of approximately 17,000 nondomiciled Commercial Driver\u2019s Licenses (CDL) for an additional 60 days, while the state works with representatives of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) to resolve their concerns with DMV’s CDL licensing process prior to March 6, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCommercial drivers are an important part of our economy \u2014 our supply chains don\u2019t move, and our communities don\u2019t stay connected without them,\u201d said DMV Director Steve Gordon. \u201cWe are hopeful that our collaboration with the federal government will give FMCSA confidence in our updated processes to allow California to promptly resume issuance of nondomiciled commercial driver’s licenses.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

This 60-day extension allows the parties to find a solution that permits drivers to remain working to serve our communities. The affected drivers will be receiving letters shortly, informing them of the extension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DMV stands ready to resume issuing commercial driver\u2019s licenses, including corrected licenses to eligible drivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before Going to a DMV Office \u2014 Try Online First<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most DMV tasks do not require an office visit. The DMV encourages customers to use its online services<\/a> and other service channels for tasks such as eligible driver\u2019s license and vehicle registration renewals. Customers can also use the Service Advisor<\/a> on the DMV website to learn about options to complete DMV tasks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go Paperless \u2014 To sign up for paperless vehicle registration and driver\u2019s license renewal notices, sign in or create a secure online account at dmv.ca.gov<\/a> to opt in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
