Fresno – Investigators from the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) today arrested Brandon Scott Herring of Sanger, owner of Clovis Auto Sales, on several counts of grand theft that have resulted in financial losses to customers estimated at $280,000.

Herring is accused of failing to properly transfer titles on sold vehicles and paying off existing loans to lenders. Investigators from the DMV’s Fresno Investigations Office made the arrest. He was booked into Fresno County Jail and is being held on $90,000 bail.

The arrest was the result of a seven-month investigation whereby DMV fielded 20 consumer complaints after the dealership abruptly shut its doors in December 2007.

Editor’s Note: Tom Wilson, Supervising Investigator at DMV’s Fresno Investigations Office, is available for interviews. He can be contacted at (559) 488-4024.
