Riverside – The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) officially dedicated its new, larger, energy-efficient East Riverside Office this morning during special ceremonies at 6425 Sycamore Canyon Blvd. in Riverside.
The DMV has the customer and the environment in mind when we construct new DMV facilities, said DMV Director George Valverde. This is a building that will serve the growing needs of the East Riverside and Moreno Valley communities.
Designed to maximize energy conservation efforts, the 14,491 square-foot office will replace the temporary DMV quarters on 1695 Spruce Street since 2006. The new office which opened May 19 to the public will service approximately 206,000 customers annually with 31 DMV employees.
The new DMV building has also achieved Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Councils Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Rating System for meeting the high standards for energy and resource conservation. The building features natural day and energy efficient lighting, heating and ventilation systems. A sleek contemporary building design and materials were used to reduce harmful pollutants. And, the facility is landscaped with native drought tolerant, low maintenance plants that require minimum water usage.
The LEED Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. It was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, a 10,000 member non-profit trade organization, which has developed the LEED system to promote a whole-building approach to sustainability.
Todays event highlights the DMVs stepped-up effort toward building more energy-efficient field offices with the customer in mind. New offices have previously been opened in Fairfield (Solano County) West Hollywood (Los Angeles County), Bishop (Inyo County), King City (Kern County), Clovis (Fresno County), San Ysidro (San Diego County), and South Sacramento (Sacramento County).
DMV’s Investigations Division enhances consumer protection through active fraud/counterfeit detection, investigation, and enforcement services. The DMV is a department under the Business, Transportation and Housing Agency, which is under the direction of Secretary Dale E. Bonner. The DMV licenses drivers; maintains driving records; registers and tracks official ownership of vehicles and vessels; investigates auto and identity-related fraud; and licenses car dealers, driving schools, and traffic violator schools.
Don’t Stand In Line, Go Online! Doing business with the DMV has never been easier. The DMV offers an array of services to customers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through its Web site (www.dmv.ca.gov), including online appointments for written and drive tests; vehicle registration and driver license renewals, selection of personalized license plates, notice of release of liability, changes of address and payment of fees through a secure, online system.
