STOCKTON – The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) today dedicated its new Stockton Office during Grand Opening ceremonies at 55 South Lincoln Street.

The 14,302 square-foot office, with 180 parking spaces is much larger than its 6,570 square-foot predecessor on 710 N. American Street which opened in 1963. The new office – which opened October 25 to the public – will handle over 252,000 transactions annually with 38 DMV employees.

"We are pleased to open a larger, more modern facility in the City of Stockton," said DMV Director, George Valverde. "We keep our customers, employees and the environment in mind when we construct new facilities. This is a win-win for the Stockton community."

With energy efficiency as a priority, DMV is pursuing to achieve a Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Rating System for meeting the high standards for energy and resource conservation. Some of the LEED certification features will include the use of day lighting, glazing systems, draught tolerant landscaping, efficient irrigation systems and water efficient plumbing.

The LEED Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. It was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, a 10,000 member non-profit trade organization, which has developed the LEED system to promote a whole-building approach to sustainability.
