The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is alerting local customers that the El Cajon field office located at 1450 Graves Avenue will be closing for renovations on Friday, April 25, 2014, at 12 p.m.

DMV Targets Unlicensed Car Dealers Posing As Private Sellers (April 14, 2014)

California Department of Motor Vehicles investigators fanned out across the state on Saturday, April 12, citing unlicensed car dealers who prey on disadvantaged buyers by disguising themselves as private sellers with the intent of flipping unsafe, used vehicles. Undercover officers issued 93 citations gave 68 warnings, impounded 109 vehicles and arrested four individuals on outstanding warrants during Saturday's operation.

DMV Investigators Make Arrest for Odometer Tampering (February 27, 2014)

On Thursday, February 27, 2014, Alberto Navarro Zapata, 27 was arrested in Stockton for odometer tampering, theft by false pretenses, and acting as an unlicensed car dealer. Zapata resisted arrest and was eventually apprehended by a Stockton Police K9 unit. He is being held at the San Joaquin County jail on a warrant with a bail amount of $55,000.

Second Public Workshop On AB 60 Regulations (February 11, 2014)

On Thursday, February 13, 2014, the California Department of Motor Vehicles(DMV) will conduct the second public workshop to gather input for the development of regulations related to the implementation of AB 60 (Chapter 524: Statutes of 2013), which was signed into law in 2013 by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. AB 60 provides persons of driving age who meet all requirements for a driver's license, but who are unable to submit satisfactory proof of legal presence in the United States and are ineligible for a Social Security Number, the privilege of applying for and being issued a driver's license.

On June 18, 2013, Murad Alrawashdeh 24, and Rami Alrawashdeh 20 were arrested in Fresno alleging several felony counts of grand theft, altering vehicle certificates of title, vehicle odometer tampering and acting as unlicensed car dealers.

New Law Automates Vehicle Registration to Benefit Consumers (September 30, 2011)

Under AB 1215 (Blumenfield), signed Monday by Governor Edmund G. In 2010, an average of one in three DMV customers said 'Yes' to donation, which is up from 2006 when only one in five DMV customers was saying 'Yes' to donation. DMV Makes Arrests in an Illegal Auto Leasing Scheme (April 16, 2009)

The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced today the arrest of the owner of Auto Management Group (AMG) and his associates for illegally subleasing vehicles, embezzlement, conspiracy, grand theft and interstate transport of stolen vehicles. DMV Investigators arrested Muinchau Pham, the owner of AMG, on Santa Clara County felony warrants at one of his homes in Tustin on April 15, 2009. Pham is being held in Orange County jail without bail. Pham was also booked for an outstanding, 2006 Sonoma County felony warrant for grand theft auto. His associates, Ron Rakeem Jones of Santa Clara and Rakish H. Butani of San Francisco were arrested in March with a bail amount of $50,000 each.

Shayan Rahbarian, former owner of a closed Sacramento auto dealership, was arrested early Friday morning in Roseville on 24 counts of fraud for allegedly failing to pay a local auto auction more than $4 million. Rahbarian previously owned Suzuki of Sacramento, which closed in July 2007.

DMV Investigators Foil Large Indentity Theft Ring in Fresno County (September 22, 2008)

As part of a multi-agency task force, investigators from the California Department of Motor Vehicles arrested nine suspects who are alleged to have been involved in a large scale identity theft ring in the Fresno County area resulting in losses over $1 million. Madera Brothers Sentenced to Prison for Running Central Valley Idenity Document Mill (May 1, 2008)

Two Madera County men have been sentenced to five years in state prison for masterminding and running a massive counterfeit operation in the Fresno area that created and manufactured phony California Driver Licenses and other forged government documents that they sold to illegal immigrants in the area. The pair was arrested early last summer after a two-month undercover sting operation by California Department of Motor Vehicles investigators and other local law enforcement officers.

Technology Driving DMV Customers to Conduct Business on the Internet (January 28, 2008)

The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced today a significant increase in customers using the DMV online services. In 2007, over 6.6 million customers used online DMV transaction services, an increase of 25 percent from 2006. DMV Investigators Arrest Fresno Dealer on Charges of Identity Theft (July 10, 2007)

A team of investigators from the Calif. Dept. of Motor Vehicles has arrested two Fresno men and charged them with stealing the identities of several of their former customers at a local dealership they operated. They are identified as 52-year old Sam D'Ambrosio and 38-year old Ramiro Martinez. D'Ambrosio was the licensed dealer/owner of Zap of Fresno, which was located at 304 N. Abby Ave. in Fresno; he also did business at that address as D'Ambrosio Auto Sales. Investigators identified Martinez as an under-the-table employee of D'Ambrosia, who is also an undocumented immigrant. The dealership has been abandoned and closed for several months.

Shaw Ave, #102, in Fresno. Jennings was taken into custody Monday on an arrest warrant and charged with 28 counts of grand theft. He is being held at the Fresno County Jail on a $1,960,000 bond.

DMV Mourns Loss of San Ysidro Driving Examiner First-ever on-the-job death occurred while administering driving test (July 12, 2006)

At approximately 1:40 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11, David Ignacio Gallegos, a seven-year DMV employee, was involved in a fatal traffic collision at the intersection of Palm Avenue and Picador Boulevard/Beyer Way in Otay Mesa while conducting a drive test. This is the first known on-the-job fatality of a driving examiner in the history of the DMV.

East Riverside DMV Office to Close; New Location Will Open A Few Days Later (June 27, 2006)

The East Riverside DMV office of the California Department of Motor Vehicles located at 6235 Rivercrest Drive, Suite 10-R, will close for business at 5 p.m. June 30, 2006, because the owner of the 18-year old building declined to renew his lease with the department. In its place, DMV will open a temporary facility while the department continues its extensive search for a permanent location in the Riverside/Moreno Valley area. The relocated office will open for business on July 5 at 9:00 a.m. after the long Independence Day holiday at 1695 Spruce Street---which is about 6 miles from the old location.
