The Driver’s License Modernization team demonstrated that large‑scale enterprise system transformation can be delivered incrementally, safely, and successfully.
The team also created a repeatable, low‑risk model for how government technology projects can be executed, setting a new benchmark for public‑sector delivery.
New Auto License Plate Configuration Project Team
IT Team Leadership Award
The team ensured uninterrupted service for millions of Californians by modifying 153 outdated programs, so the DMV could continue issuing new license plate configurations.
This effort offered clear evidence of organizational service, innovative problem‑solving, and public stewardship.

Improvement Through Efficiencies
Driver Safety Case Management System Modernization
The Driver Safety Branch of the California DMV incorporated a timesaving application that automates processing for 20,000 unsafe driver cases each month and the administration of about 1.4 million sanctions each year throughout the state.
The Driver, Attorney, and Law Enforcement portals are self‑service tools which allow law enforcement, drivers, and attorneys to submit information, schedule appointments, and upload documents.

How the DMV Helps Californians Recover from Disasters
Informative Writing – Regional Award
The DMV Office of Public Affairs wrote an article focused on how DMV disaster response teams helped survivors of the 2025 southern California wildfires get back on the road to recovery.
Team members helped replace driver’s licenses, identification cards, and vehicle registrations destroyed in the flames—vital documents needed to get services and file insurance claims. Armed with laptop computers, printers, and a camera, the teams assisted 9,562 wildfire survivors and completed 6,538 transactions.

CHiPs for Kids Holiday Toy Drive
Community Service – Regional Award
The DMV has partnered with the California Highway Patrol in its annual CHiPs for Kids Toy Drive, a statewide initiative that collects new, unwrapped toys and gifts for underprivileged children and teens during the holiday season.
This award highlights the Fontana office team and its efforts to help children in need within their community.

Riverside Team Member Ronda Alejos
Customer Service – Regional Award
Ronda Alejos assists in-person customers with obtaining driver’s licenses, identification cards, and vehicle registration services.
She describes her purpose at the DMV as someone who helps those who need her most to ensure every customer feels welcomed, heard, and valued.
