Hawthorne DMV Office to Close Temporarily

What you need to know: The Hawthorne Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office will close temporarily for renovations on August 7 at 5 p.m. However, most customers do not have to visit an office and can do their DMV business online at dmv.ca.gov.

Sacramento — The California DMV today announced that the Hawthorne office at 3700 W. El Segundo Blvd. will close temporarily for painting and the installation of new flooring beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, August 7. The office is scheduled to reopen at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, August 26.

Until the renovations are complete, customers can visit the following area offices:

  • Los Angeles: 3615 S. Hope St. (10 miles from the Hawthorne office)
  • Culver City: 11400 W. Washington Blvd. (10 miles from the Hawthorne office)
  • Torrance: 1785 W. 220th St. (11 miles from the Hawthorne office)
  • San Pedro: 1511 N. Gaffey St. (15 miles from the Hawthorne office)

Before Going to a DMV Office — Try Online First

Most DMV tasks do not require an office visit. The DMV encourages customers to use its online services and other service channels to complete transactions, such as eligible driver’s license and vehicle registration renewals. Customers can also use the Service Advisor on the DMV website to learn about options to complete DMV tasks.

Go Paperless — To sign up for paperless vehicle registration and driver’s license renewal notices, sign in or create a secure online account at dmv.ca.gov to opt in.
