San Pedro DMV Office to Close Temporarily

What you need to know: The Department of Motor Vehicles’ (DMV) San Pedro office will close temporarily for renovations on September 11 at 5 p.m. However, most customers do not have to visit an office and can do their DMV business online at dmv.ca.gov.

Sacramento — The California DMV today announced that the San Pedro office at 1511 N. Gaffey St. will close temporarily for renovations beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, September 11. The office is scheduled to reopen at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, November 18. Renovations will include painting and the installation of new flooring and furniture.

Until the renovations are complete, customers can visit the following area offices:

  • Torrance: 1785 W. 220th St. (6 miles from the San Pedro office)
  • Long Beach: 3700 E. Willow St. (12 miles from the San Pedro office)
  • Compton: 2111 S. Santa Fe Ave. (13 miles from the San Pedro office)

Before Going to a DMV Office — Try Online First

Most DMV tasks do not require an office visit. The DMV encourages customers to use its online services and other service channels to complete transactions, such as eligible driver’s license and vehicle registration renewals. Customers can also use the Service Advisor on the DMV website to learn about options to complete DMV tasks.

Go Paperless — To sign up for paperless vehicle registration and driver’s license renewal notices, sign in or create a secure online account at dmv.ca.gov to opt in.
