Second Residency FAQs

It depends. If the address on the letter matches your current address, check the “Yes” box, sign the letter, and return the letter in the prepaid envelope. This will serve as your additional residency document.

If the address on your letter does not match your current address, check the “No” box, sign the letter, and place TWO residency documents showing your updated California address and the letter in the prepaid envelope and change your address with DMV.  

Sending in two residency documents will not change the address DMV has on file for you. Please visit the Change of Address application online to update your address.

Alterations such as blacking out the “amount due” or “balance” of a credit card or home utility bill are acceptable; however, changes cannot be made to the name or address section of the document.
