    Sacramento – The California Department of Motor Vehicles is now offering Californians who are 70 and older the option to renew their noncommercial driver’s license online. Licenses that expire beginning March 1, 2020, and throughout the COVID-19 emergency are eligible, including REAL ID renewals. A mail-in option will be available in the coming weeks.  Most drivers 69 and younger can also renew at dmv.ca.gov – even if their renewal notice states they must come to an office.

    Sacramento – Following recommendations by Governor Newsom’s Strike Team, the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is now phasing in a pilot program to allow credit card and digital wallet (Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay) payments at field offices. The department announced today that that the Davis field office will be the first in the state to accept credit cards, starting September 30. The DMV is piloting this payment option in Davis, with additional DMV offices in Fresno, Victorville and Roseville joining the pilot in the coming weeks. Full implementation of the program is expected in all field offices by early 2020.

DMV investigators handed out an additional 10 citations to concertgoers who they caught parking in a disabled spot without a placard, bringing the total to 106.

    Sacramento- On January 22, the first day the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offered Californians the opportunity to apply for a REAL ID driver license or identification (ID) card, more than 5,000 customers submitted applications for a REAL ID compliant card. Many said they used the REAL ID interactive checklist at REALID.dmv.ca.gov to gather the required documents needed to apply for the new federal compliant REAL ID card.

    Sacramento – Investigators with the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) issued misdemeanor citations to 150 people caught fraudulently using disabled person parking placards during 21 enforcement operations in December 2017. Offenders must appear in court to face possible fines ranging from $250 to $1,000.
  • DMV Helps Santa Barbara County Mudslide Survivors at Local Assistance Center

    Sacramento – The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is offering limited services free of charge to residents impacted by the Santa Barbara County mudslides. DMV staff will be available at a temporary Local Assistance Center set up at the Calvary Chapel, 1 N. Calle Cesar Chavez, Santa Barbara. The center opens Wednesday, January 17 at 11 a.m.

  • DMV to Offer REAL ID Driver License and ID Cards January 22

    Sacramento – The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will offer federal compliant REAL ID driver licenses and identification (ID) cards beginning January 22. This optional card is being made available to Californians who want to continue to use their driver license or ID card to board a domestic flight or enter secure federal facilities when new federal requirements take effect October 1, 2020. Californians will have the choice to apply for a REAL ID driver license or ID card, or renew or apply for a federal non-compliant card.
