To report safety complaints on autonomous vehicles to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration please use the complaint form above. This form allows members of the public to submit safety complaints related to automated vehicles. To report a safety complaint by phone, call NHTSA’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.

Permit Resources

Current Permit Holders
The California DMV authorizes manufacturers to test and deploy autonomous vehicles under three permit categories: testing with a safety driver, driverless testing, and deployment. Each category has specific approved locations, operating conditions, and speed limits.
Collision Reports
Manufacturers testing autonomous vehicles need to report every collision involving one of their vehicles that results in property damage, bodily injury, or death.
Autonomous Vehicle Regulations
Since autonomous vehicle technology first began raising regulatory considerations in 2013, the California DMV has worked to develop testing and deployment regulations and has conducted public hearings and workshops to support that process.
