DMV teams up with the U.S. Postal Service to offer convenient kiosk at local post office

Paradise – Area residents can now complete many DMV transactions using a self-service kiosk located at the U.S. Post Office at 6469 Clark Road. The kiosk offers convenient local service to this community after the Camp Fire forced the Paradise DMV field office to close in November 2018. The nearest DMV field office is located in Chico. Many DMV services are also available online.

Customers can conduct the most common DMV transactions on the touchscreen kiosk, from renewing vehicle registrations and receiving replacement registration cards and stickers to obtaining a vehicle record. The 24/7 kiosk accepts credit/debit cards and cash and provides instructions in multiple languages.

“We are pleased to partner with the U.S. Postal Service to provide DMV services in Paradise,” said DMV Director Steve Gordon. “This kiosk allows customers from the area to quickly conduct DMV business without an office visit. Our commitment to innovation remains strong, and we continue to find digital solutions that deliver services how and where our customers want them.”

“The United States Postal Service is excited about this new opportunity with the California DMV,” said Elvin Mercado, Vice President of Retail & Post Office Operations. “This collaboration allows flexibility to the residents of California by offering a one stop solution when completing their postal service transactions and DMV needs. As we have committed to in the Delivering for America plan, the Postal Service will continue to work with all levels of government to engage and provide services for residents as a storefront for government services, and to generate new revenue and additional foot traffic into our retail facilities.”

The kiosk in Paradise is one of five that have been placed at post offices throughout the state.

  • Los Angeles – 7101 S. Central Avenue
  • Oakland 1675 – 7th Street Room 236
  • Rancho Cordova – 10923 Progress Court
  • Sacramento 2000 – Royal Oaks Drive

Kiosks can be found at 365 statewide locations, including DMV offices and grocery stores. To locate one near you, visit dmv.ca.gov/kiosks. Since the first gold and blue kiosk debuted in 2010, customers have completed more than 15 million self-service transactions.

No Office Visit Necessary

Most DMV tasks do not require an office visit. The DMV offers services through many channels, including kiosks and online. A complete list of online services is available at dmv.ca.gov/online, including driver’s license renewal and vehicle registration, requesting a driving record, and completing a notice of transfer and release of liability, among other tasks. Other services may be started online, such as applying for a REAL ID and uploading necessary documents.
