Minor's Provisional License Checklist
You will need a federal compliant card such as a passport, military ID, or REAL ID to board a domestic flight or access some federal facilities beginning October 1, 2021. The DMV started offering REAL ID driver licenses and ID cards on January 22, 2018. A field office visit is required to apply for a REAL ID.
To obtain a minor's provisional license, you must be at least 16 years old, but under 18. The requirements are:
Provide proof of driver education / driver training completion.
Hold an instruction permit for a minimum of six months.
Provide a parent's signature on your instruction permit indicating that you have completed 50 hours of supervised driving (10 hours must be at night).
Pass the behind-the-wheel driving test (you must make an appointment and provide proof of insurance). Call 1-800-777-0133 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday - Friday, to make a drive test appointment.
