Second Public Workshop On AB 60 Regulations
On Thursday, February 13, 2014, the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will conduct the second public workshop to gather input for the development of regulations related to the implementation of AB 60 (Chapter 524: Statutes of 2013), which was signed into law in 2013 by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. AB 60 provides persons of driving age who meet all requirements for a driver's license, but who are unable to submit satisfactory proof of legal presence in the United States and are ineligible for a Social Security Number, the privilege of applying for and being issued a driver's license.
The workshop is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Bell Community Center, 6250 Pine Avenue, Bell, CA 90201.
AB 60 also requires the department to develop regulations and consult with interested parties in an effort to assist the department in identifying documents that will be acceptable for the purposes of providing documentation to establish identity and residency.
While the Department welcomes all comments relevant to the development of these regulations, the Department is particularly interested in comments related to the types of documents upon which the Department can rely in verifying an applicant's identity and California residency. A full agenda will be provided prior to the workshop and will be available on the DMV's web site.
Participation in the workshop will be in addition to, and not in substitution for, any participation in the formal rulemaking process.
The first public workshop was held in Sacramento, CA on January 28, 2014.
