DMV Issues Permit Authorizing Waymo to Test Driverless Vehicles in Santa Clara County (Oct 30, 2018)

Sacramento – Pursuant to state law and regulation, the Department of Motor Vehicles today issued a permit to Waymo authorizing the company to test driverless vehicles on public roads, including freeways, highways and streets within the cities of Palo Alto, Mountain View, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills and Sunnyvale, in Santa Clara County. While Waymo has held a permit to test autonomous vehicles with a driver since 2014, the new permit allows the company to test a fleet of about three dozen test vehicles without drivers behind the wheel.

Fresno North DMV Field Office Closed for Repairs (Oct 29, 2018)

Sacramento – The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is alerting customers that the Fresno North field office, located at 6420 N Blackstone Avenue, is temporarily closed after a water pipe burst and caused substantial flooding to the office. Disabled Parking Placard Enforcement Catches 491 Abusers in September (Oct 11, 2018)

Sacramento – Investigators with the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) caught 491 people misusing disabled person parking placards during 14 enforcement operations in September. The majority of those offenses took place during five enforcement operations held at the Los Angeles County Fair that resulted in 443 citations. Offenders had their placard confiscated and face fines that range from $250 to $1,000.

DMV Warns Californians about Unofficial Websites Charging Fees (Oct 2, 2018)

Sacramento – The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is warning the public about websites that are charging customers to complete the electronic driver license and ID card application, for DMV appointments and for other online transactions. The department received reports of websites charging customers a fee to complete the new online driver license application. The DMV’s Investigations Division is investigating these websites for any violation of consumer protection laws.

345 People Caught Abusing Disabled Parking Placards at Los Angeles County Fair (Sep 21, 2018)

Pomona – A series of enforcement operations held at the Los Angeles County Fair has resulted in 345 citations being issued to abusers of disabled person parking placards. During four operations held at this year’s fair, DMV investigators verified that 1,955 visitors using disabled person parking placards were doing so legally. The statistics reveal that one of every six people were fraudulently using a placard.

Customers have experienced longer-than-expected service times because of increased demand in the federal compliant REAL ID driver license or identification card.

Saturday Service Expands to 60 DMV Field Offices This Weekend (Aug 1, 2018)

Sacramento – The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will open 43 field offices this Saturday, July 21, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. All services, except behind-the-wheel tests, will be provided. Increased Saturday service is part of the department’s strategy to ease wait times in field offices. Nearly 2,500 People Caught Misusing Disabled Parking Placards in One Year (Jul 6, 2018)

Sacramento – An aggressive crackdown on the fraudulent use of disabled person parking placards resulted in 2,485 misdemeanor citations being issued between July 1, 2017 and June 30, 2018. Investigators with the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) caught the offenders during 256 enforcement operations throughout the state. During the prior fiscal year, 1,625 citations were handed out during 165 operations.

DMV Combats Unlicensed Vehicle Dismantlers in Los Angeles County (May 4, 2018)

Sacramento – Investigators with the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) conducted an enforcement operation in Los Angeles County aimed at combating unlicensed vehicle dismantlers. DMV investigators targeted 24 locations in the Wilmington area and issued 16 misdemeanor citations for offenses such as operating as an unlicensed dismantler or auto repair facility, or unlicensed dealer. DMV investigators collaborated with the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration and the Department of Consumer Affairs (Bureau of Automotive Repair).

Country Music Fans Caught Misusing Disabled Parking Placards at Stagecoach Festival (May 1, 2018)

Coachella Valley – The country album “Caught in the Act” could have new meaning for 96 Stagecoach Country Music Festival fans caught in the act of fraudulently using disabled person parking placards. Investigators with the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) issued the misdemeanor citations during an enforcement operation held April 27 to 29. DMV investigators handed out an additional 10 citations to concertgoers who they caught parking in a disabled spot without a placard, bringing the total to 106.

Disabled Parking Placard Abusers Face the Music at Coachella Valley Festival (Apr 24, 2018)

Coachella Valley – This year’s Coachella Valley Music Festival started out on a sour note for 135 concertgoers who received misdemeanor citations for fraudulently using disabled person parking placards. Investigators with the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) issued an additional 18 citations to people they caught parking in a disabled spot without a placard, bringing the total to 153.

Sacramento – The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has a message for people fraudulently using disabled parking placards: “We will catch you.” As part of the department's unrelenting crackdown on placard misuse, DMV investigators cited 16 out of 142 people contacted during an enforcement operation today at Walmart located at 4675 Watt Avenue in North Highlands. Statewide, the DMV has issued 1,664 citations from July 1, 2017 to February 28, 2018.

Sacramento – Investigators with the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) conducted an enforcement operation in Sacramento County today aimed at combating unlicensed vehicle dismantlers. DMV investigators targeted 22 locations in Rancho Cordova and Rio Linda and issued nine misdemeanor citations for offenses such as operating as an unlicensed dismantler or auto repair facility, or selling an unregistered vehicle.

Sacramento – Investigators with the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) issued misdemeanor citations to 153 people caught fraudulently using disabled person parking placards during 20 enforcement operations in February 2018. Investigators verified 1,582 placards, which means they issued citations to about one out of every 10 people with whom they interacted.

Sacramento – California drivers can now show their support for breast cancer screenings by ordering the newly released Pink Ribbon license plate. A portion of the fees that the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) collects from orders of Pink Ribbon license plates will go to the California Department of Health Care Services’ Every Woman Counts program. The Every Woman Counts program provides mammograms, breast cancer diagnostic services, breast cancer education, and other breast cancer awareness services to California’s underserved women.

DMV investigators have linked Le to more than 34 fraudulent applications.

New Traffic Ticket Amnesty Program Starts October 1 (Oct 1, 2015)

On Wednesday, August 20, 2014, California Car Sales owner George Guevara was charged with 79 criminal counts including conspiracy to commit grand theft, odometer tampering, and theft by false pretenses. He made an agreement with the Contra Costa District Attorney's Office to self-surrender to the court.

On Thursday, February 27, 2014, Alberto Navarro Zapata, 27 was arrested in Stockton for odometer tampering, theft by false pretenses, and acting as an unlicensed car dealer. Zapata resisted arrest and was eventually apprehended by a Stockton Police K9 unit. He is being held at the San Joaquin County jail on a warrant with a bail amount of $55,000.
