DMV Answers Questions During KCRA 3 Prime Time Newscasts
Sacramento – The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is teaming up with KCRA 3 to inform northern California residents about the REAL ID driver license and identification card program. DMV representatives will be discussing the REAL ID program and answering viewer questions during newscasts at 4, 5 and 6 p.m. on May 16.
The DMV and KCRA 3 want residents to be prepared for upcoming changes to federal identification requirements to board flights within the United States, and access secure federal facilities and military bases that begin October 1, 2020. When the enforcement date takes effect, Californians will be required to show one of the following documents at airport security checkpoints and specific federal screening locations:
- REAL ID driver license or identification card
- Passport or Passport Card
- Global Entry Card
- Other federally approved documents
For Californians who want to continue to use their driver license or identification card to fly within the United States or enter secure federal facilities, the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offers residents a federal compliant REAL ID driver license and identification card, which is identified with a bear and star.
To apply, individuals must visit a DMV office and bring the following documents:
One Proof of Identity – Original or Certified
(Ex: Valid passport, birth certificate, etc.)
One Proof of Social Security number
Two Proofs of California Residency – Paper Copies
(Ex: Utility bill, cell phone bill, bank statement, vehicle registration card)
For a complete list of acceptable documents, visit REALID.dmv.ca.gov.
